This morning we were happy as could be- ready to travel to Richmond and visit Cheryl (author of the Twinfatuation blog) and her family.
One and 1/2 hours later....we were still far far away. The traffic was terrible and we concluded that it was senseless to continue our quest to the Lage household.
We broke the play date.
We were blue.
And bluer than both of us was this basket of merriment meant for the little Lages. What would happen to it now? So sad and dejected like the occupants of the front seat.
Soon our eyes met the sign of a Cracker Barrel restaurant. At least we could fill the holes in our hearts with over -cooked meats, mashed potatoes, and gravy.
However, even that was a no-go.
Too many people.
Too much time to wait.
Drive on.
No Lages.
No down-home Cracker Barrel cooking.
Ah!!!! A UPS store. We stopped and gave the UPS people the basket-o-merriment to mail to the Lages. At least the BASKET would have the opportunity to visit.
But we will try again.
Some how...some way...we WILL sit and make merry with the Lages.
We must.
We have to.
It ain't over 'til the Catholic Teacher lady sings.

Oh Dear Heaven...we feel AWFUL!
Your WHOLE day was shot on that she-demon interstate. :( Our sympathy/empathy surpasses words, having been on that same stretch of road too many occasions for durations of time Mapquest dare not even tease about. Then to be thwarted by CrackerBarrel just adds insult to injury.(Your husband's mid-traffic mantra is the only thing that can bring even a fraction of a smile in those instances!)
As God as my witness, we WILL all meet before too much time gets away from us.
Thank you so much for making the attempt, and truly I am SOOO sorry it was so horrific on the highway. (Sounds like a Quentin Tarantino movie, doesn't it?)
Love you guys...have a relaxing evening...and maybe a glass of wine or two to decompress a smidge. :)
Oh bummer! We used to travel 95 quite a bit when Rob was stationed in NC, but we learned many cruel lessons that way. We soon started opting for the slightly less direct, but more scenic and less hellish "back" roads.
Oh no! Two of my favorite bloggers nearly had a playdate! I would so love to have heard all about it. You have to do it again!
Funny you should chime in ,Threeundertwo, because I was just talking about you this morning.and..how you wrote that we should "branch out" at church and try the pew in front or in back of our favorite pew.
NO WAY!!! We are committed to being the weirdos at church.
It's nice to be noticed.
...thanks for your sympathy.
Ah, 95 South! I can now say that I know exactly where-of you speak! And I ATE at that Cracker Barrel, I betcha a week and a half ago! LOL! You guys came up with a good solution to beat that wicked highway, anyway!
I tell ya, I'd chance that frustrating road again, though, to get to spend more time visiting in your neck of the woods.
Oh, reading about your travels just made my stomach tighten. Made that trip more often than I can say and EACH time got burned on that she-demon road. The problem, of course, is that there is no alternate route to get around it. Ugh.... So sorry for the frustration.
But those beers sure looked nice!
