Dipping into the Rebellion Sauce: Fourth of July

I think of myself as a law-abiding citizen but last night I was enjoying a little bit of anarchy taking place in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
Fireworks.
Fireworks everywhere...up and down and all around the beach areas.
Apparently, many of our fellow vacationers are well-practiced in the art of firework display.
These were not sanctioned by the fire department fireworks.
These were not official fireworks.
These were the not-so-legal kind.
Spectacular anarchy....in abundance.
So what do you say to the children as you gleefully grin from ear to ear while illegal sprays of green, blue, and red explode above in the night sky?
We said nothing.

We put our chairs down in the sand in the backyard of my brother's rental, sipped from our beverages, ooohhhhhed and aaaahhhhed, and enjoyed ourselves immensely.

No parking hassle.
No having to worry about beating traffic out.
Just oodles of pure fun.

Today we may have some obligatory follow-up commentary.
I was really concerned for the safety of the crowd.
Fireworks are a serious matter.
Those people should be fined.

Yup, yup, and yup.
(But if you had been there, you would have loved it too! It was quite awesome.)
Let freedom ring.

Good stuff. We have friends who live out in the country (2 miles down an unpaved road country) and for New Year's they would always drive out of state to get the 'good' fireworks. Nothing like putting on your own display! Granted, there were some close calls, singed shirts and burnt fingers, but no serious injuries, thankfully. And we're all much more grown up now -but they are fun memories!

AMEN! Scott had gone to visit his brither in South Carolina last weekend...and came back with some of the not-so-legal variety. Think the grown-ups were squealing just as loudly as the kids last night.

Rockets' red glare...seems wrong to make it illegal...I'm just sayin'....

God Bless America. :)

Yeah we had the legal ones but dreamed of the days we had the illegal kind! No harm, no fowl.

I'm glad no one blew off a thumb!

Around here the illegal kind got us warmed up for the legal display. Though it was funny when someone kept shooting theirs off even as the town's were delighting us. No competetion there. As we drove home and law-breakers kept their celebration up, I looked out each car window trying to spy every one. I am a geek for fireworks.

It was a lot of fun to watch all the not-quite-legal displays, if only while driving back and forth to the legal ones :)

I have to say my hubby and kids love doing their own fireworks.. and no they are not all legal but they seem to be acceptable in our neighborhood. We are never alone, people all around us do them so we gather our neighbors every year and enjoy!

fun, fun, fun. been there, done that.

fireworks are illegal here in georgia, but the SC state line is one minute from our house, and there is a huge fireworks store just off their first exit.

p.s. couldn't resist. when i was in college i studied for a summer in spain. since we were arriving there on the weekend of july 4th, one of the guys in our group (and don't ask me how...i'm sure it could not be done today) had managed to bring some fireworks with him from the States. he and his goonies had fun setting them off on the beach until some beach chairs caught on fire. sheesh.
